Topic: Solid Gold: Classic Hits from the Rutherford Trust Collection
A past exhibition, from February 2-May 11, 2008.
Solid Gold is a title that many who were teenagers in the 1970s can immediately identify with. The series of Solid Gold: Classic Hits were record compilations of the most popular songs of the year so there was no need to change the record playing.
With this same idea of picking lasting favourites in mind, Curator, Damian Skinner selected works from the Rutherford Collection that will have long-lasting appeal among the best of the classic hits that we love of contemporary New Zealand art.
The Rutherford Trust was formed in 1988 by the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand with the intention making New Zealand art accessible to the New Zealand public. The collection mostly comprises major names in contemporary New Zealand Art such as Colin McCahon, Ralph Hotere, Gretchen Albrecht, Toss Woolaston amongst the 20th century collection.
The Electricity Corporation of New Zealand now no longer exists and in that process, the Rutherford Collection lost its home at Rutherford House in Wellington.
Since 2006 the collection has been housed at Aratoi, Wairarapa Museum of Art & History
