Balloons above Garden PlaceA remembrance was held on March 1, a week on from Christchurch's 6.3 magnitude earthquake, which caused widespread damage and claimed 154 people (as of today).

At 12.30pm, approximately 250 people gathered in Garden Place, at which a prayer was led by a local minister and the national anthem was sang. This was followed by two minutes' silence at 12.51pm (when the earthquake struck), and 200 red and black balloons were released.
