A 20-tonne digger with a 2.6-tonne concrete munching attachment is ate its way through the former underground car park access and Peace Wall area in Garden Place inJanuary 2012 as part of the CityHeart project. The digger began chewing through the concrete on Tuesday morning 17th and finished the following week. Once demolished, the concrete was pulverised on-site, and the material re-used to fill the old car park access.

The Peace wall was built in 1986 by the peace movement to commemorate peace initiatives of the time. The Peace Tiles were each carefully removed and are stored at the City Heart yard. Hamilton City Council will later put these up at another location in the city.
