The first years in Hamilton

Nancye first came to Hamilton in 1956 as a young married woman with three young children. Her husband Joe Corden was a teacher, and he was sent to Hamilton to set up classes in Hamilton schools for children with special needs.

They first lived in Grandview Road. Every night the power went off at 10 o'clock, and Nancye describes the rush to get every done before this. In summer she picked blackberries in what is now Nawton Road. Hamilton had several department stores at this time, and Nancye liked going into town, and she describes the hassles of using the buses with three small children.
