Allenby Street was named in 1964 after Mr E.H.H. Allenby.

Allenby Street was named in 1964 by the Housing Corporation/owners and Hamilton City Council (HCC) after Mr E.H.H. Allenby, 1st Viscount, 1861-1936, a British Field Marshall in World War 1.  (Encyclopedia Britannica p. 643)  This naming followed a theme to name the streets in the development after WWI heroes. (HCL)  Mr E.G. Jones was the previous owner of the property.
