Clarence Street

Clarence Street appears on the 1864 Survey map.   It was named by civic leaders after the fourth and final "Duke of Clarence" (and Avondale) Prince Albert Victor of Wales.  He was the eldest son of Albert Edward Prince of Wales who later became King Edward VII. He died in the influenza epidemic in 1892 at the age of 28. (Barton, C.J.W notes)

Clarence Street is located here on Google maps.

Clarence Street runs from Ruakiwi Street by the Lake passing Pembroke and Tristram Streets finally ending at Anglesea Street.
