Edgecumbe Street was named after George Edgecumbe.

Edgecumbe Street is located in the Hamilton, New Zealand suburb of Whitiora.  It is a crown grant and was named Lower Mount Street in 1913 by civic leaders, surveyors and citizens.  It was renamed Edgecumbe Street in 1923 by Hamilton City Council.  Edgecumbe Street was named after George Edgecumbe, who settled  in Waikato in 1865.  He was a member of Hamilton Borough and City Council (1885-7, 1905-7) and mayor from 1899-01.  (Gibbons p. 82) (HCC) (HCL) (Lands & Surveys)
