If a child cannot go to school then school must go to the child.

In the 2nd year of Ekal Movement in NZ the momentum is picking up. As word is spreading about this wonderful cause more and more people are showing interest.

In 2009 many people volunteered to raise awareness towards Ekal Vidyalaya through their own way. Capt. Shekhar Vadke published a full 3-page article in his quarterly publication Starspeak. We are thankful to Capt Vadke for his kind gesture, Roshni Patel, Gina Wright and their friends worked hard for full day at Rotorua Diwali festival putting mehendi (Heena) and raising funds for Ekal. Their excellent Heena skills were well appreciated by all, AND THEY MANAGED TO COLLECT $600 IN SINGLE DAY TO SPONSOR 1 SCHOOL. What a great effort, we will inform the Ekal Foundation in India that while allocating school against this contribution they should specially mention about this Indian-Maori joint effort. We are thankful to Auckland Marathi Association for publishing information on Ekal in their bi-monthly newsletter My-boli. We thank Hindu Council of New Zealand for promoting the Ekal Vidyalaya through its Youth Conference in Auckland, Diwali Festival in Rotorua and Regional conference in Wellington this year. We are also thankful to all our friends and well-wishers who have made special efforts to talk to their friends about this wonderful cause.

Swami Vivekanand ji the most respected philosopher from India once said that "If a child cannot come to school then the school must go to him" Ekal Movement is a mission to bring schools to these deprived children of rural and tribal area and provide them their right of basic education.

We are proud of the fact that in spite of these hard economic times we managed to bring schools to children in 12 villages. Till last year children from these 12 villages would be stressing looking at something like this ߘ˙∂˚∆˙©ƒæ...πøΩ≈çç∫√µ≥≥˚˚ˆ∆∆¨¥∆∆ and wondering what would this be, but now they can confidently tell this means nothing!

Not only we are giving these 322 children (174 boys and 148 girls) education we are giving them the confidence, making them capable of deciding what is right and what is wrong.

Please have read through the attached brochure. If you need more information please call Nandan Modak on 07 8566385 or Sanjay Joshi on 07 8463147 or email us at If you are convinced please do sponsor a school or spread the word. The schools are allotted in April so one of them can be under your name within a month's time.

We all know uncertainty bring frown while confidence brings smile. These children are smiling today and we are smiling because they are smiling, it's contagious and in no time you and many more will be smiling.
